    About the Nib
    :
Gold is measured by fineness in Karats (or Carats),  and is in parts of 24. So, 24kt gold is pure gold.  Anything other than pure 24kt gold is alloyed with some other material.  The combination of materials alloyed gives way to whether or not a nib is more flexible than not.
14kt gold is 14 out of 24 parts pure gold, or 58.5% gold.  So anytime you see a nib that says 585, it is 585/1000 gold, or 14kt  In most cases if you are buying anything above 18k Gold Filled outside, it will be very soft and will not take handling well.  It will scratch very easily.  That is why I do not carry anything above 18k Gold Filled Pens here at Jerrys Pens!
This is a Cross 18k gold filled/rolled Classic Century Fountain Pen that was made in the USA just before they moved to China.  My guess is sometime between the years 1989 - 1991.  This is really a rare find.  It is almost impossible to find an 18k Gold Filled Fountain Pen like this.  All you can get now are the 18k solid gold Pens which run ,675.00 (#4502) just for the Pen alone.  This is the most sought after Classic Century 18k gold pen, because you can usually pick them up under 00.00  In most cases a used 18k gold filled/rolled pen or pencil will run about 9.99!  That's ,000.00 less than what you can buy retail now.  If you have a pencil, and need to complete your set with a fountain pen, grab this one.  It is like new.  If you don't have either, you can buy both here.  Or maybe you just want the pen alone.  Here is the perfect buy.  It comes in it's original Cross box with the lifetime mechanical warranty.  The pamphlet has pages missing.  We will supply a box of 6 ink cartridges with this, as well as a nice "Cross Pen Protector from the same time period."

*Items like Acrylic stands are just for display, and not part of the auction!
*Anything listed as new has never been used, if you see something in the picture that looks like a scratch, it's NOT!  Sometimes the camera picks up reflections.  We use white gloves in handling these, so as not to get fingerprints on them.
*If it doesn't say NIB=New In Box, or comes with a box, or doesn't show your item in a box, you can assume it doesn't come with one.  If you don't see a box listed, and you would like one, just leave us a message.
*All Cross writing instruments and desk set pen holder mechanisms are unquestionably guaranteed against mechanical failure, regardless of age from the Cross Warranty Service Center.  Any Cross product or part requiring service under this warranty will be repaired or replaced when received at our factory from the consumer (postage and insurance are the responsibility of the consumer, and processing fees may apply). Any such product that is no longer in production and cannot be repaired will be replaced by a comparable Cross product. Lead, erasers and ink refills exhausted in the course of normal use, and emblems and other customized decorations, are excluded from this warranty; also excluded are fountain pen nibs and other parts damaged from impact, unreasonable use or obvious abuse. The Cross guarantee extends our assurance of a lifetime of writing pleasure to every owner of a Cross writing instrument. Questions about Warranty Services, go to cross.com
*Please be aware if you return "New Items" for any reason other than a defect, and
they now have a scratch on them, or anything different than when we sent them to you; there will be a fee charged, and you will not get the full price back, because we will have to devalue them, and they can't be resold as "NEW"!  The same goes for “Used Items”, they must be returned just as they were when sent out!  If you are returning for what is deemed to be "NOT a good reason" IE.. buyers remorse, you found them cheaper elsewhere, you decided you didn't want them, you didn't know how to operate your item correctly, etc... there will be a 30% restocking fee charged.  We will replace any defective item rather than giving a refund, if we have a replacement. If we don't have a replacement, We will issue credit for JerrysPens merchandise.  We do want you to be happy with your purchase; unfortunately there are a few people abusing eBay's rules and policies, so we had to put a stop to that.
